BRANCH NEWS SPRING 2023
Our meetings are generally held at the Bloomfield Hotel, Mullingar on the second Monday of the month starting at 1pm and followed by tea and scones.
Our Christmas lunch was very well attended. As well as the AGM and election of officers, there was a quiz and raffle, followed by a visit from Father Christmas himself!
Our first meeting of the New Year was on January 16th and solicitor Aoife Moynihan who gave an informative talk on Power of Attorney, Wills, gifting money and the Fair Deal Scheme.
The 14th of February the Athlone and Mullingar branches held a joint event in Moate.
We saw ‘The Six Marys’ written and narrated by Jean Farrell, with supporting actress/singer Catherine Gallagher. The play is a comical, yet poignant look at life from childhood in the 1950’s to the present day. The story is based on the lives of the six girls christened Mary.
The play was very good and along with the laughter and encouragement to join in with the singing (and the prayers!),it was a thoroughly great afternoon’s entertainment. It was followed by tea and sandwiches provided by the on site café. 60 members attended and we look forward to possible other joint meetings with our Athlone colleagues.
Coming up on the 13th March at 1.00pm we have one of our members Danny Dunne talking about gardening matters.

Trip to Patrick Kavanagh Centre
Our trip took us to the Patrick Kavanagh Centre at Inishkeen, Co. Monaghan on Wednesday 19th April 2017.

We had a wonderful trip and a guided tour of the centre as well as the trail, remembering places

from his poetry, including Cassidy’s Hanging Hill, Shancoduff, the triangular field and Billy Brennan’s barn.

Danny Dunne (Cathaoirleach), Mullingar.
