Benefits of Membership

There are so many benefits in being a member of the RTAI – a great deal of them practical in nature, but also there is the social and collegiate dimension of belonging to an ever-growing cohort of former teachers who have both choice and voice.

The association provides constant support to its members.  Two newsletters are distributed to members each year, in May and November, and these were expanded substantially recently to a twelve-page format.  These contain up-to-date information on matters such as salary increases, Social Welfare matters, Taxation, Budgetary provisions and their likely implications for members.

We maintain a close link with the INTO and it is through INTO that negotiations are conducted to improve conditions for our members.  Click on links here to download current tables showing Common Basic Salary scale, Promoted Posts Allowances and Academic and Other Allowances

The RTAI will assist members with queries on Pensions, Health and Social Welfare entitlements.  For contact details – see CONTACT (insert hyperlink here) page.

 Fiscal and Insurance Benefits

Members are entitled to group membership of VHI, Quinn Healthcare and Hibernian Aviva Healthcare.  VHI group scheme offers a 10% reduction in premiums.  VHI can continue to be deducted fortnightly from your pension, provided you have transferred to the RTAI group scheme.  The other Healthcare Plans are payable from a bank account or credit card account.

The RTAI has its own Tax Consultant and its own Financial Consultant.  The Association also has its own Car Insurance Scheme, its own Travel Insurance  and Life Insurance Schemes.  RTAI members also have direct access to Comhar Linn INTO Credit Union Ltd, as they are part of the common bond.  The association issues membership Cards that enable members to avail of all the INTO discount schemes, as well as other reductions in various shopping, social and leisure outlets.

 Benefits from Membership of Branch

By rule, each branch is obliged to hold two meetings each year - one in the summer, being the AGM, and one in the winter. Members are encouraged to attend their Branch meetings and to become fully involved in the progress of the Association.

There is a vibrant social dimension to the Association in many Branches.  Social events are organised by these Branches at local level and include different activities such as coffee mornings, lunches, art classes, writing classes, computer classes, book clubs, visits to theatres and galleries, midweek breaks, day trips and sporting events/ activities, as well as foreign forays!
